The New Interpretation of the Sentence Structure of"AAXB"in the Book of Songs
LI Zhaoxi
Abstract:The Book of Songs is the earliest collection of poetry in China and serves as the source and model for ancient Chinese literature. This paper focuses on the"AAXB"sentence pattern in the Book of Songs and examines its syntactic structure. While the majority of scholars consider this pattern as a modifier-head structure, based on analysis of ancient exegetical materials and contemporary literature, this study reevaluates it as a subject-verb inversion structure with adjectives placed before the subject, and explores the origins and causes of this sentence pattern.
