Influence of Brick Powder Fineness and Dosage on Cement Properties

Abstract：To study the effect of different fineness of brick powder and clinker on the performance of cement,and to maximize the hydration and cementing activity of each raw material,cement was prepared using two different finenesses levels of clinker and four different finenesses levels of brick powder.The prepared cement was testedfor its flowability,strength properties and hydration products.The study shows that the incorporation of brick powder can improve the net slurry flow of cement;however,the net slurry flow of cement decreases gradually with the increase in the fineness of brick powder and with the increase of the dosage of brick powder.The fineness of brick powder and clinker does not have a significant effect on the flexural strength.the compressive strength of mortar shows no significant change with the increase of the fineness of brick powder,but it decreases gradually with the increase of the dosage of brick powder.With the increase of clinker fineness,the Ca(OH)2 diffraction peak intensity decreased,stimulating pozzolanic activity of brick powder.The increase of clinker fineness was conducive to stimulating brick powder activity at the age of 28 days,which was beneficial to the strength growth.
