A Study on the Dual Narrative Progression in Afterlives

Abstract:2021 Nobel Prize laureate Abdulrazak Gurnah's latest work Afterlives shows his latest reflections on African colonization and refugee issues,as well as his latest exploration in writing techniques.Based on the rhetorical narrative theory of dual narrative progression,this paper analyzes the texts of the novel and finds that in addition to the discussion of refugee identity,the author depicts an ideal family life,praises the positive survival power of African groups,and expresses his optimistic attitude towards building a community of common destiny,showing the author's superb narrative skills and great aesthetic value of the work.
