From the Charming Appearance to the Painful Reality-On Picnic's from the Structuralism Perspective

Abstract:Picnic is William Inge's best play. By implying structuralism criticism, this paper analyzes the three binary oppositions existing in the play:man vs. woman, romance vs. realism and keeping vs. pursuing in order to expose the playwright's tragic consciousness and displays Inge's tragic perspective and philosophical thoughts on destiny, marriage and so on.
