A Study on the Translation of Book of Poetry by Xu Yuanchong from the Perspective of Conceptual Metaphor

Abstract：With the publication of Metaphors We Live By coauthored by George Lakoff and Mark Johnson since 1980s, the cognitive function of metaphor has become more and more prevalent. Metaphor is not just a rhetorical device but a universal thinking pattern and cognitive method. Book of Poetry is the origin of Chinese classic liter?ature which encompasses a lot of metaphors and thus analyzing the translations of metaphors as well as their translation strategies can not only justify the scientific and adaptive nature of conceptual metaphor but also shed light upon the cognitive study of metaphor translation and bring it into a new era.
