Abstract：This paper argues that Wolfgang Iser's concept of"Blank"is applicable for analyzing literary transla?tion. Drawing from the concept of"Blank", this paper analyzes the necessity and main methods of retaining the blanks.in the translation of water-image in Chinese classical poems and lyrics.
