The Protagonist Edna's Choosing and Falling in the Awakening from the View of Free Will

Abstract:Free will is one of the most basic concepts in Western Ethics. In Kate Chopin's The Awakening, it has many ideas of free will. Based on close reading of the text, this paper analyzes the protagonist Edna's choices with struggling and falling after choosing from the view of free will. Through the analysis of free will, the paper points out that Edna has the right to choose herself thoughts, herself feelings and herself life. In addition, she can be responsible for her choices.
