The Interpersonal Function of Ideational Grammatical Metaphor

Abstract：Grammatical metaphor is the recoupling of form and meaning, a language variant. In this paper, there is an attempt to analyze the interpersonal function caused by ideational grammatical metaphor at the lev-el of clause within the analysis framework and theoretical architecture of systemic functional grammar. Through the contrast between congruent and metaphorical forms, and analysis of"nominalization"and"verbalization"of circumstances, it is found that the mood is weakened in"metaphorical form";the responsibility of proposition is clarified and the evaluation is more colorful in"nominalization";there is a reconfiguration of elements in proposition to deploy the responsibility of proposition and the interpersonal functions are much more reformed and colorful.
