An Investigation into the Correlation of Non-English Majors' cultural Identification to Their English Proficiency
Abstract:Through questionnaire this article investigated 187 non-English majors' identification with AngloAmerican culture and its correlation to English proficiency, it found that 37.4% of English learners have identified with Anglo-American culture and 11.2% have been struggling between the identification with either Anglo-American culture or Chinese one. In addition, there was a weak potitive correlation between learners' cultural identification and English proficiency. This paper discussed the underlying factors and finally proposed two suggestions to deal with the present situation.
