The Image of Clare Guided by the Schema Theory
Abstract:Influence by traditional English teaching,Some students ' English reading comprehension has been limited to words,phrases,sentences and superficial meaning.This paper takes the image of the hero Clare in Tess of D’urbervilles by Thomas Hardy for example to show the great importance of schema theory in understanding English literature work.On the surface,Clare is cruel and cold-hearted because he deserts his wife on the wedding night.However,with a view to writhing background and the times when Clare was brought up,that is to say,activating the scheme of Clare,Clare will become another image in readers’ mind.Clare is not cruel and cold-hearted,but confused and hesitating.
