Research on the Measurement of Regional Transportation Modes Based on Niche Theory
Abstract：During the evolution of the transportation system, various modes of transportation have gradually formed specific functional positions. Based on the niche theory in ecology, this paper proposes the concept of the niche of transportation modes and constructs models for the niche width, niche differentiation index, and niche overlap index of regional transportation modes. Taking the transportation statistical data of Jiangsu Province from 2017 to 2022 (passenger volume, passenger turnover, freight volume, and freight turnover) as a sample, an empirical study is conducted on four modes of transportation: railway, road, waterway, and aviation. The results show that the niche theory of regional transportation modes can effectively reveal the competition mechanisms and evolutionary laws among different transportation modes, providing a reference for the optimization research of China's regional integrated transportation system.
