Comparison of Carbon Emissions from Commuting Travel under Different Land Use Patterns
Abstract:Based on the theoretical models of mixed-use and separated employment-residential land use patterns, this study uses a simplified four-stage method for traffic demand analysis to obtain the commuting travel characteristics under the two land use patterns. Taking the entire city as the research object, it calculates and draws the carbon emission curves of commuting travel under the two land use patterns under different public transport sharing rates and internal travel proportions. The study finds that if the internal travel proportion under the mixed-use pattern is less than 0.07, the separated employment-residential land use pattern can generate lower commuting travel carbon emissions; if the proportion is greater than 0.3, the mixed-use land use pattern can generate lower commuting travel carbon emissions; if the proportion is between 0.07 and 0.30, the public transport sharing rate under the two land use patterns should be considered, and specific estimation and comparison should be made using the charts derived from the study.
