Application of Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment in Nursing Risk Screening for Elderly Inpatients in Primary Healthcare Institutions
Abstract:Objective To explore the application effect of comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA) in nursing risk screening for elderly inpatients in primary healthcare institutions. Methods Ninety elderly inpatients admitted to the internal medicine department of Leye Town Health Center, Yunxiao County, Zhangzhou City from January 2023 to January 2024 were selected as the study subjects and randomly divided into an intervention group (n=45) and a control group (n=45). The control group received routine internal medicine care and risk assessment, while the intervention group received multidimensional assessment using the CGA tool by a trained nursing team, along with targeted interventions and follow-up care after discharge. The activities of daily living, fall risk, nutritional status, cognitive function, and psychological state of both groups were compared one month after discharge, as well as the nursing satisfaction during hospitalization. Results One month after discharge, the intervention group showed higher scores in activities of daily living, nutritional status, and cognitive function, while showing lower fall risk and depression scores compared to the control group, with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05). The intervention group had higher scores in all dimensions of nursing satisfaction (except environment and safety) and total score compared to the control group, with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05). Conclusion Applying CGA for assessment in the internal medicine department of primary healthcare institutions can effectively screen nursing risks and significantly improve patients' functional status and clinical outcomes through multidisciplinary collaboration and follow-up care, thereby enhancing the quality of nursing services.
