Analysis of correlative factors for extrathyroidal extension in papillary thyroid carcinoma
Abstract:Objective To analyze the correlative factors for extrathyroidal extension (ETE) in papillary thyroid carcinoma. Methods The medical records of 1642 consecutive patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) admitted between January,2014 and December,2015 in Peking University Cancer Hospital were analyzed retrospectively.Patients' gender, age, size of tumor, multicentricity, state of lymph node metastasis, preoperative biopsy and combining with Hashimoto's thyroiditis were investigated for assessment of the correlative factors associated with ETE.Results A total of 1004 patients (61.1%) had ETE.Multivariate analysis revealed that major diameter of tumor more than 1 cm (OR=3.789,95%CI 3.012-4.768,P<0.001),multicentricity (OR=1.848,95%CI 1.445-2.362,P<0.001) and 55 age and older (OR=1.331,95%CI 1.003-1.767,P=0.047)were independent risk factors for ETE in papillary thyroid carcinoma. Conclusion ETE in papillary thyroid carcinoma is associated with characteristics such as larger tumor, multicentricity and advanced age.ETE should be taken notice of in patients with clinicopathological characteristics.
