Research Progress on New Anti-Tuberculosis Drugs
Abstract:Currently, tuberculosis remains one of the main infectious diseases that threaten human health. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) 'Global Tuberculosis Report 2024', tuberculosis once again became the number one 'killer' of infectious diseases in 2023. Due to the relative scarcity of anti-tuberculosis drugs, the treatment of tuberculosis, especially drug-resistant tuberculosis, is still a major challenge in the global effort to end tuberculosis, as it involves long treatment duration, significant adverse reactions, low treatment success rates, and high mortality rates. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop more new anti-tuberculosis drugs. In recent years, following bedaquiline (Bdq), delamanid (Dlm), and pretomanid (Pa), some very new anti-tuberculosis drugs have entered clinical trial stages. This article reviews their research progress.
