A Case Report of Duodenal Mucosal Remodeling Using the Barrx Radiofrequency Ablation System and a Literature Review
Abstract:In recent years, research on duodenal mucosal remodeling (DMR) in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) has made significant progress. However, due to the lack of ablation devices available abroad, no team in China has yet applied this technique [1]. The Barrx radiofrequency ablation system is a minimally invasive medical device specifically designed for endoscopic treatment of Barrett's esophagus. It is currently one of the main treatments for Barrett's esophagus with dysplasia, especially high-grade dysplasia [2]. The Department of General Surgery, Metabolic Bariatric Center at China-Japan Friendship Hospital has pioneered the exploration of using the Barrx radiofrequency ablation system for duodenal mucosal remodeling. This article reports a case of DMR treatment using the Barrx radiofrequency ablation system, and systematically reviews the literature on DMR. It summarizes the clinical characteristics of this technique, including indications, operation points, and treatment outcomes, aiming to draw the attention of clinical physicians and provide some experience and references for clinicians and researchers.
