A Case Report of Cryptococcal Urinary Infection in a Patient with Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome
Abstract:Cryptococcus neoformans (CN) is a yeast-like fungus that can cause infections in humans and other mammals, leading to severe disseminated cryptococcosis. CN primarily enters the host's lungs through inhalation via the respiratory tract and can spread to the bloodstream, invading the central nervous system, especially in immunosuppressed individuals such as those with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), organ transplant recipients, or patients using immunosuppressive agents [1-2]. Cryptococcosis often involves the skin, causing rashes, but urinary system involvement and urinary tract infection are rare [3]. This article analyzes the clinical data of a patient with AIDS who had systemic disseminated CN infection at Yunnan Provincial Infectious Disease Hospital, and discusses it based on relevant literature to enhance clinical awareness of this disease, avoiding missed or misdiagnoses.
