The Impact of Iodine Metabolism Abnormalities During Pregnancy and Advances in Iodine Supplementation
Abstract:Iodine is the main raw material for the synthesis of thyroid hormones and plays an important role in maintaining normal body metabolism. A series of physiological changes during pregnancy lead to an increased demand for iodine. Both iodine deficiency and excess during pregnancy can have adverse effects on maternal thyroid function, pregnancy outcomes, and the growth and development of offspring. Therefore, timely and appropriate iodine supplementation is crucial. There are still controversies regarding the effects of iodine nutrition during pregnancy on mothers and offspring, as well as the timing and necessity of iodine supplementation.
