A Case Report of Eculizumab Treatment for Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria with Subclinical Non-Acute Intravascular Hemolysis Controlled by Ipilimumab and Literature Review
Abstract:Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) is an acquired hemolytic disease caused by mutations in the PIG-A gene in hematopoietic stem cells, leading to the absence of glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored proteins on hematopoietic cells, including important complement regulatory proteins such as complement C3 decay-accelerating factor (CD55) and membrane attack complex inhibitor (CD59). This results in red blood cell destruction by the complement system, causing intravascular hemolysis (IVH), thrombosis, and organ damage [1].
