Importance of the Multifactorial and Complexity of Thrombocytopenia During Pregnancy
Abstract:Thrombocytopenia during pregnancy is a common issue in obstetrics, with an incidence rate of approximately 7% to 11% [1]. Due to its complex etiology and the intertwining of physiological and pathological factors, clinical management must also take into account the safety of both mother and fetus, making thrombocytopenia a challenge for obstetricians [2]. Currently, many obstetricians in grassroots hospitals focus more on the surface manifestations of thrombocytopenia in pregnant women, with their consideration of causes often limited to common conditions such as gestational thrombocytopenia and idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) [3]. However, with the development of multidisciplinary treatment models and advances in critical obstetrics, some rare and severe forms of thrombocytopenia [such as thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA) and myeloid malignant thrombocytopenia] have gradually come to the attention of obstetricians.
