Expert Interpretation of the Clinical Prevention and Treatment Guidelines for Pediatric Metabolic Syndrome (2025)
Abstract:Metabolic syndrome (MS), as a modern 'civilization' disease, has formed a global epidemic trend, increasing the risk of chronic non-communicable diseases such as cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases and respiratory system diseases. In recent years, MS has also become prevalent in children. Pediatric metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a syndrome characterized by central obesity, hyperglycemia, hypertension, etc. Early screening and clinical treatment lack unified standards, and there are some problems and misconceptions in the diagnosis and treatment of MetS. In response to the increasing incidence of MetS and its trend of early onset, to protect children's mental health, ensure growth and development, reduce the risk of adult-onset diseases, and alleviate the disease burden, the Endocrine and Metabolic Group of the Chinese Society of Pediatrics, together with the China Clinical Practice Guideline Alliance, revised and formulated the 'Clinical Prevention and Treatment Guidelines for Pediatric Metabolic Syndrome (2025)' (hereinafter referred to as the 2025 edition of the guidelines) based on the 'Definition and Prevention and Control Recommendations for Metabolic Syndrome in Chinese Adolescents (2012)' [1]. The 2025 edition of the guidelines provides practical guidance for doctors in the field of pediatric endocrinology and metabolism, promotes early identification and intervention of the disease, improves patient prognosis, and enhances prevention and control levels. This article interprets the key points of the 2025 edition of the guidelines, especially the content related to clinical prevention and treatment.
