Interpretation of the 'Chinese Guideline for Exercise Therapy in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (2024 Edition)'
Abstract:According to the latest global data, the number of diabetes patients aged 18 and above has exceeded 828 million, and the number of patients in China has surpassed 140 million, ranking second in the world [1]. Among them, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) accounts for 90% to 95%. The management of blood glucose in T2DM mainly relies on individualized lifestyle interventions and pharmacotherapy. As one of the main methods of lifestyle intervention, moderate exercise has been proven to be an effective strategy for managing T2DM [2]. In recent years, extensive studies both domestically and internationally have shown that exercise can help regulate blood glucose, lipid levels, blood pressure, body weight, and other metabolic indicators, as well as reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) through mechanisms such as improving insulin sensitivity, enhancing metabolism, and regulating vascular function [3-4]. However, improper exercise may further worsen blood glucose levels and increase the risk of complications.
