How to submit unprocessed Western blot images to international journals
Abstract:The Western blot (WB) detection technique is easier to operate compared to ELISA and other antibody-based detection methods, and it can provide information about protein size, so it is widely used for the quantitative detection of protein expression levels in samples. However, with the increasing popularity of WB technology, scientists have increasingly raised concerns about the reproducibility and reliability of WB data submitted to peer-reviewed journals. In 2014, the National Institutes of Health, along with the journals Science and Nature, held a meeting with other publishers and scientific organizations on the topics of reproducibility and transparency of published scientific data. Through this collaboration, a series of guideline documents were developed. One of the specific areas focused on by the meeting involved image-based data, such as protein western blots, and many improvement recommendations were proposed. After the meeting, many journals established stricter review guidelines for WB data and revised their instructions for submitting WB data.
