Clinical Efficacy of Modified Xuanbai Chengqi Decoction Combined with Western Medicine in the Treatment of Severe Pneumonia in the ICU and Its Effect on Respiratory Mechanics Indices
Abstract：Objective: To investigate the clinical efficacy of modified Xuanbai Chengqi Decoction combined with Western medicine in the treatment of severe pneumonia in the ICU and its effect on respiratory mechanics indices. Methods: A total of 108 patients with severe pneumonia in the ICU admitted to Henan Electric Power Hospital from April 2022 to April 2024 were selected as the study subjects and divided into Group A and Group B according to different treatment methods, with 54 cases in each group. Patients in Group A received conventional Western medicine treatment, while those in Group B received modified Xuanbai Chengqi Decoction combined with conventional Western medicine treatment. The clinical efficacy, inflammatory-related indicators, respiratory mechanics indices, and medication safety before and after treatment were compared between the two groups. Results: The total effective rate of treatment in Group B was higher than that in Group A, with a statistically significant difference (P < 0.05). After treatment, the serum levels of procalcitonin (PCT) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) in Group B were lower than those in Group A, with a statistically significant difference (P < 0.05). After treatment, the peak inspiratory pressure (PIP), airway resistance (Raw), and mean airway pressure (mPaw) in Group B were lower than those in Group A, with a statistically significant difference (P < 0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in the overall incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups (P > 0.05). Conclusion: The treatment regimen of modified Xuanbai Chengqi Decoction combined with Western medicine has an exact therapeutic effect, can effectively control the body's inflammatory response in patients, improve respiratory mechanics indices, and does not increase adverse reactions, showing good clinical reference value.
