Clinical Observation of Moxibustion during the Dog Days Combined with Sodium Hyaluronate Intra-Articular Injection in the Treatment of Knee Osteoarthritis of the Yang Deficiency and Cold Stasis Syndrome
Abstract:Objective: To explore the clinical effect of moxibustion during the Dog Days combined with sodium hyaluronate intra-articular injection in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis (KOA) of the Yang deficiency and cold stasis syndrome. Methods: A total of 46 patients with Yang deficiency and cold stasis type KOA treated at Xishan Hospital of TCM, Xishan District, Wuxi City from July to August 2024 were selected as the study subjects. They were randomly divided into an observation group and a control group, with 23 cases in each group. The control group received sodium hyaluronate intra-articular injection, while the observation group received moxibustion during the Dog Days combined with sodium hyaluronate intra-articular injection. The clinical efficacy, pain level, knee joint function, TCM syndrome scores, serum inflammatory factor levels, and incidence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups before and after treatment. Results: The total effective rate of the observation group was higher than that of the control group, with a statistically significant difference (P < 0.05). After treatment, the VAS score of the observation group was lower than that of the control group, with a statistically significant difference (P < 0.05). Three weeks and five weeks after treatment, the Lysholm knee score of the observation group was higher than that of the control group, with a statistically significant difference (P < 0.05). After treatment, the TCM syndrome scores of the observation group were all lower than those of the control group, with a statistically significant difference (P < 0.05). After treatment, the levels of TNF-α and IL-1β in the serum of the observation group were lower than those of the control group, with a statistically significant difference (P < 0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in the overall incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups (P > 0.05). Conclusion: The treatment of moxibustion during the Dog Days combined with sodium hyaluronate intra-articular injection for Yang deficiency and cold stasis type KOA has a significant effect, which can inhibit the inflammatory response of the joint, relieve pain, improve TCM syndrome, and enhance knee joint function.
