Effect of Traditional Chinese Medicine Fumigation and Washing Combined with Abdominal Moxibustion and Auricular Acupoint Pressing on Wound Healing, Pain, and Sleep Quality in Patients After Mixed Hemorrhoid Surgery
Abstract:Objective: To investigate the intervention effect of traditional Chinese medicine fumigation and washing combined with abdominal moxibustion and auricular acupoint pressing on pain relief, wound healing, and sleep disorders in patients after mixed hemorrhoid surgery. Methods: A total of 162 patients with mixed hemorrhoids who underwent surgery at Pingdingshan Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from January 2023 to January 2025 were selected as the study subjects and randomly divided into an observation group (intervention with traditional Chinese medicine fumigation and washing combined with abdominal moxibustion and auricular acupoint pressing on top of routine nursing care) and a control group (routine nursing care only), with 81 cases in each group. The postoperative recovery indicators, wound pain and edema levels before and after intervention, serum inflammatory factor levels, anal function, sleep quality, and incidence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results: The wound healing time, pain relief time, edema disappearance time, and exudate disappearance time in the observation group were all shorter than those in the control group, with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05). After 3 days and 7 days of intervention, the visual analog scale (VAS) scores and self-assessed wound edema scores in the observation group were lower than those in the control group, with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05). After 7 days of intervention, the levels of serum tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and interferon-γ (IFN-γ) in the observation group were all lower than those in the control group, with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05). After 7 days of intervention, the anal canal relaxation pressure, anal canal resting pressure, and anal canal maximum contraction pressure in the observation group were higher than those in the control group, while the length of the anal high-pressure zone was shorter, with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05). After 7 days of intervention, the scores of all dimensions of the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) in the observation group were lower than those in the control group, with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in the overall incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups (P > 0.05). Conclusion: Intervention with traditional Chinese medicine fumigation and washing combined with abdominal moxibustion and auricular acupoint pressing for patients after mixed hemorrhoid surgery can shorten the postoperative recovery time, relieve pain and edema, inhibit inflammatory responses, improve anal function, and enhance sleep quality without increasing adverse reactions.
