The Effect of Yiru Zhenbao Pills Combined with Celecoxib on Knee Joint Function, Pain Relief, and Safety in Patients with Knee Osteoarthritis
Abstract：Objective: To investigate the effects of Yiru Zhenbao pills combined with celecoxib on knee joint function, pain relief, and safety in patients with knee osteoarthritis. Methods: A total of 191 patients with knee osteoarthritis who visited Zhoukou Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital from December 2022 to June 2024 were selected as the study subjects. They were divided into three groups based on treatment methods: the celecoxib group (68 cases, treated with celecoxib capsules), the Yiru Zhenbao pills group (52 cases, treated with Yiru Zhenbao pills), and the combination group (71 cases, treated with both celecoxib capsules and Yiru Zhenbao pills). The clinical efficacy, TCM syndrome scores, serum inflammatory factor levels, arthritis symptoms, knee joint function, pain intensity, and incidence of adverse reactions were compared among the three groups. Results: The total effective rate and the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) score of the combination group were higher than those of the celecoxib group and the Yiru Zhenbao pills group. The TCM syndrome scores, serum levels of interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6, and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC), and Visual Analog Scale (VAS) scores were lower in the combination group compared to the other two groups. All differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in the overall incidence of adverse reactions among the three groups (P > 0.05). Conclusion: The clinical effect of Yiru Zhenbao pills combined with celecoxib in treating knee osteoarthritis is better than using either drug alone. It can significantly alleviate clinical symptoms, reduce serum inflammatory factor levels, improve osteoarthritis symptoms, enhance knee joint function, relieve pain, and does not increase adverse reactions.
