Efficacy of Hyperbaric Oxygen Combined with Xingnaojing Injection and Edaravone Tablets in the Treatment of Vascular Dementia and Its Effects on Cerebral Hemodynamics and Oxidative Stress Response
Abstract：Objective: To analyze the efficacy of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) combined with Xingnaojing injection and Edaravone tablets in the treatment of vascular dementia (VaD), as well as its effects on cerebral hemodynamics and oxidative stress response. Methods: A total of 72 patients with VaD admitted to Nanyang Central Hospital from November 2023 to March 2025 were randomly divided into an HBO group and a control group, with 36 cases in each group. The control group received Xingnaojing injection and Edaravone tablets, while the HBO group received additional HBO treatment. The cerebral hemodynamic parameters [middle cerebral artery pulsatility index (PI), resistance index (RI), mean flow velocity (Vm)], oxidative stress markers [catalase (CAT), malondialdehyde (MDA), superoxide dismutase (SOD)], neurotrophic factors [dopamine (DA), 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT), brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF)], behavioral ability [Blessed Behavioral Scale (BBS) score], cognitive function [Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) score], and incidence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups before and after treatment. Results: After treatment, the HBO group showed lower PI, RI, serum MDA levels, and BBS scores compared to the control group, while higher Vm, serum CAT, SOD, DA, 5-HT, BDNF levels, and MMSE scores were observed in the HBO group. The differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in the overall incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups (P > 0.05). Conclusion: HBO combined with Xingnaojing injection and Edaravone tablets for the treatment of VaD can improve cerebral hemodynamics, reduce oxidative stress response, regulate neurotrophic factor levels, promote recovery of cognitive function and behavioral ability, and is safe and feasible.
