Selected Academic Experiences of Professor Gu Zhishan on 'Five Movements and Six Qi'
Abstract:Professor Gu Zhishan takes the theory of 'Five Movements and Six Qi' in the 'Huangdi Neijing' as the core, and constructs a dynamic diagnostic system that integrates the idea of 'unity of heaven and humanity'. Professor Gu proposes that 'Five Movements and Six Qi' is the core carrier of 'unity of heaven and humanity' in traditional Chinese medicine, emphasizing the synchrony between natural rhythms and human qi transformation. He reveals the spatiotemporal dynamic characteristics of the six-jing (meridian) differentiation, and guides clinical treatment by combining the 'times when diseases are relieved'. Professor Gu pays attention to the combination of constitution and the theory of climate, applies the theory of 'storing essence in winter' to guide the use of medicinal pastes to enhance physical condition, and flexibly uses the three-influences Si Tian formula, breaking through conventional climate calculations, demonstrating the dynamic medical thinking of 'Si Tian, Si Ren, Si Bing' (governing the sky, governing people, governing disease). Professor Gu advocates 'not using numbers to predict, but using signs', providing new ideas for the prevention and control of diseases and epidemic forecasting in clinical practice.
