The Effect of Sanqi Tongshu Capsule Combined with Conventional Western Medicine on Cognitive Function in Patients with Vascular Dementia After Cerebral Infarction

Abstract：Objective: To investigate the effect of Sanqi Tongshu Capsule combined with conventional western medicine on cognitive function in patients with vascular dementia (VD) after cerebral infarction. Methods: A total of 68 patients with VD after cerebral infarction admitted to the Fourth People's Hospital of Zhumadian City from January 2023 to September 2024 were selected as the study subjects and conducted a retrospective study. According to different treatment methods, patients receiving conventional western medicine were classified into the Western Medicine Group (32 cases), and those receiving Sanqi Tongshu Capsule combined with conventional western medicine were classified into the Combination Group (36 cases). The treatment effects, cognitive function, serum neurotrophic factors, and hemorheological indicators were compared between the two groups. Results: The total effective rate of the combination group (94.44%) was higher than that of the western medicine group (71.88%), with a statistically significant difference (P < 0.05). After treatment, the scores of Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) and Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) in both groups were higher than before treatment, and the combination group was higher than the western medicine group, with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05). After treatment, the levels of serum neuron-specific enolase (NSE) and central nervous system specific protein (S100β) in both groups were lower than before treatment, and the combination group was lower than the western medicine group, with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05). After treatment, the low shear viscosity (LSV), high shear viscosity (HSV), and plasma viscosity (PV) of peripheral blood in both groups were lower than before treatment, and the combination group was lower than the western medicine group, with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Sanqi Tongshu Capsule combined with conventional western medicine has a significant therapeutic effect on patients with VD after cerebral infarction, can also improve cognitive function, reduce the level of neurological injury factors, and the combined medication can improve hemorheological indicators more quickly.
