Comparison of Chest Radiograph Quality between Mobile and Indoor Direct Digital Radiography
Abstract:Objective: To evaluate the quality of chest radiographs obtained by mobile direct digital radiography (DR) and indoor direct DR, and to analyze the causes of defects. Methods: A total of 1542 posterior-anterior chest radiographs from occupational health examination subjects were collected from the Occupational Health Examination Center of Changsha Center for Disease Control and Prevention between January and March 2024, divided into mobile DR group and indoor DR group. The quality was evaluated, and the causes of radiographic defects were analyzed. Results: The excellent rate and good rate of the indoor DR group were higher than those of the mobile DR group, while the fair rate, poor rate, and defective rate were lower, with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05). The main cause affecting the image quality of indoor DR was the failure to pull out the scapula (incidence rate 17.76%). For mobile DR, the main causes were external artifacts such as female bras (incidence rate 24.90%) and failure to pull out the scapula (incidence rate 17.90%), with secondary causes being exposure conditions (incidence rate 4.87%). There were no statistically significant differences in the incidence rates of failure to pull out the scapula, insufficient inspiration, hand overlapping with lung fields, repeated exposure, and unexposed cases between the two groups (P > 0.05). Differences in other influencing factors were statistically significant (P < 0.05). Conclusion: The quality of chest radiographs obtained by mobile DR is lower than that of indoor DR, with external artifacts and exposure conditions being the main causes of quality differences.
