The Effect of Traditional Chinese Medicine Rehabilitation Exercises on Cardiac Function in Elderly Patients with Chronic Heart Failure
Abstract:Objective: To explore the effect of traditional Chinese medicine rehabilitation exercises on cardiac function in elderly patients with chronic heart failure. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on the data of patients with chronic heart failure treated at the Seventh People's Hospital of Zhengzhou from January 2022 to January 2024. Fifty-one patients who received conventional drug therapy were included in the control group, while fifty-one patients who received traditional Chinese medicine rehabilitation exercises in addition to conventional drug therapy were included in the observation group. After three months of treatment, the traditional Chinese medicine syndrome scores, cardiopulmonary function, serum indicators, exercise tolerance, and quality of life were compared between the two groups. Results: After treatment, the main symptoms, secondary symptoms, and tongue-pulse scores of the observation group were lower than those of the control group, with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05). After treatment, the left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), stroke volume (SV), and left ventricular fractional shortening (FS) of the observation group were higher than those of the control group, while the left ventricular end-systolic volume (LVESV) and left ventricular end-diastolic volume (LVEDV) were lower, with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05). After treatment, the forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1) and forced vital capacity (FVC) levels of the observation group were higher than those of the control group, with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05). After treatment, the serum N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) level of the observation group was lower than that of the control group, while the 6-minute walk test (6MWT) value was higher, with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05). After treatment, the scores of all dimensions of the Minnesota Living with Heart Failure Questionnaire (MLWHFQ) in the observation group were lower than those in the control group, with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Traditional Chinese medicine rehabilitation exercises can improve the traditional Chinese medicine syndrome, cardiopulmonary function, exercise tolerance, and quality of life in elderly patients with chronic heart failure.
