Observation on the Efficacy of Abdominal Acupuncture 'Yin Qi Gui Yuan' Therapy in Treating Residual Dizziness After Repositioning in Elderly Patients with Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo
Abstract:Objective: To observe the efficacy of abdominal acupuncture 'Yin Qi Gui Yuan' therapy in treating residual dizziness after repositioning in elderly patients with benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). Methods: A total of 60 elderly patients with posterior semicircular canal BPPV who had successfully undergone repositioning but still had residual dizziness symptoms were selected from Yunfu People's Hospital between January 2022 and December 2023. They were randomly divided into a control group, a western medicine group, and an abdominal acupuncture group, with 20 patients in each group. The control group received modified Epley maneuver repositioning, the western medicine group received oral betahistine mesylate tablets on top of the control group treatment, and the abdominal acupuncture group received abdominal acupuncture on top of the control group treatment. The residual dizziness symptom scores [Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI) score and Dizziness Assessment Rating Scale (DARS) score], TCM syndrome scores, and clinical efficacy were compared among the three groups. Results: After 7 days and 28 days of treatment, the DHI scores, DARS scores, and TCM syndrome scores of the abdominal acupuncture group were lower than those of the western medicine group and the control group, with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05). After 7 days and 28 days of treatment, the total effective rate of the abdominal acupuncture group was higher than that of the western medicine group and the control group, with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Administering abdominal acupuncture 'Yin Qi Gui Yuan' therapy to patients with residual dizziness after BPPV repositioning can reduce residual dizziness symptoms, improve TCM syndrome, and enhance clinical efficacy.
