Effect of Acupoint Massage Combined with Dexmedetomidine on Postoperative Emergence Agitation in Elderly Patients Undergoing Hip Surgery Under General Anesthesia
Abstract:Objective: To comprehensively evaluate the efficacy of acupoint massage combined with dexmedetomidine in preventing emergence agitation in elderly patients undergoing hip surgery under general anesthesia. Methods: A total of 80 eligible patients who underwent hip surgery under general anesthesia at Meizhou Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from January 2023 to December 2023 were selected as the study subjects. They were randomly divided into four groups using a random number table: control group (Group A, 20 cases), acupoint massage group (Group B, 20 cases), dexmedetomidine group (Group C, 20 cases), and acupoint massage plus dexmedetomidine group (Group D, 20 cases). All groups received postoperative recovery care management. After surgery, patients were immediately transferred to the recovery room and connected to a ventilator. The blood pressure (BP), heart rate (HR), and pulse oxygen saturation (SpO2) levels were monitored and recorded at T0 (upon entering the recovery room), T1 (5 minutes later), T2 (10 minutes later), T3 (after extubation), T4 (3 minutes after extubation), T5 (5 minutes after extubation), T6 (10 minutes after extubation), and T7 (15 minutes after extubation). Results: There was no statistically significant difference in BP and HR levels among the four groups at T0, T1, and T7 (P > 0.05). However, there were statistically significant differences in BP and HR levels at T2, T3, T4, T5, and T6 (P < 0.05), with Group D showing higher BP and HR levels than the other three groups (P < 0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in SpO2 levels among the four groups at T0, T1, T2, T3, and T7 (P > 0.05), but there were statistically significant differences at T4, T5, and T6 (P < 0.05), with Group D having higher SpO2 levels than the other three groups (P < 0.05). Conclusion: The application of acupoint massage combined with dexmedetomidine in elderly patients undergoing hip surgery under general anesthesia has positive significance, effectively prevents emergence agitation, maintains stable vital signs, and has high safety, thus benefiting the prognosis.
