Clinical Experience of Ureteroscope for the Treatment of Perirenal Cyst with Renal Calculi
Abstract:Objective To explore the safety and efficacy of using retrograde flexible ureteroscope with holmium laser in the second stage for the treatment of perirenal cyst combined with renal calculi. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 8 patients with perirenal cyst combined with renal calculi treated with flexible ureteroscope and holmium laser at Changzhou Second People's Hospital from October 2017 to October 2023. The surgical time, postoperative hospital stay, surgical success rate, stone clearance rate, and surgical complications were evaluated. Results All surgeries were successfully completed. The average surgical time was (90±35.4) minutes. A F6 double-J stent was placed postoperatively for 4-8 weeks. CT scans were performed before stent removal to evaluate the treatment effect on stones and cysts. The average postoperative hospital stay was 4.3 days, and the stone clearance rate was 100%. Two patients experienced cyst recurrence, but no significant surgical complications occurred in any of the patients. Conclusion The use of retrograde flexible ureteroscope with holmium laser for the treatment of renal calculi combined with perirenal cyst has the advantages of minimal surgical trauma, fewer complications, and rapid postoperative recovery, and can be promoted as an ambulatory surgery. However, some patients may have difficulty identifying the cyst during the flexible ureteroscopy, making it impossible to perform internal drainage of the cyst. The long-term effectiveness of this procedure needs further follow-up confirmation.
