A Case Report of Surgical Nursing Cooperation for Corheart 6® Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) Implantation
Abstract:Heart transplantation is an effective treatment for end-stage heart failure, but it faces challenges such as limited organ donors, immune rejection, and postoperative infections. With the development of technology, left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) are used in patients with end-stage heart failure to provide mechanical support and serve as a bridge to heart transplantation or as long-term treatment to restore cardiac function. This device can significantly improve the quality of life and lifespan of patients with end-stage heart failure. Its core medical product, the fully magnetically levitated centrifugal left ventricular assist system, is known as the 'smallest artificial heart in the world' with a blood pump thickness of only 26 mm, diameter of 34 mm, and weight of approximately 90 g, which is 40% smaller in diameter and 50% lighter than existing magnetically levitated artificial hearts on the market. This article summarizes the experience of surgical nursing cooperation in the first long-term Corheart 6 implantable left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation surgery in Changzhou. Nursing points include adequate preoperative preparation and psychological care, meticulous intraoperative surgical cooperation, and correct postoperative pipeline care, skin care, and safe transfer. By formulating and implementing surgical nursing measures, the operation was smooth, the artificial heart implantation was successfully performed, the outcome was satisfactory, the patient was safely returned to the ward, no serious complications occurred after surgery, and the recovery was good, leading to a smooth discharge.
