Research Progress on the Integrated Intervention of Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine for Postoperative Delirium in Elderly Patients
Abstract:Postoperative delirium (POD) usually refers to an acute and short-term brain dysfunction syndrome that occurs within one week after surgery (mainly in the first 1-3 days), characterized by obvious fluctuations, with cognitive dysfunction, decreased level of consciousness, inattention, and disturbances in the sleep-wake cycle as main manifestations. It is a common and serious postoperative complication in elderly patients. Currently, the preferred regimen for the prevention and treatment of POD in clinical practice is non-pharmacological interventions, such as correcting susceptibility factors, improving physiological function reserves, and avoiding possible precipitating factors. Medications can include antipsychotics and dexmedetomidine. At the same time, traditional Chinese medicine therapy has also achieved certain effects in the prevention and treatment of POD. Therefore, this article briefly summarizes the integrated intervention schemes of traditional Chinese and Western medicine for postoperative delirium in elderly patients.
