Artificial Breeding and Embryonic Development Observation of Sinogastromyzon macrocephalus
Abstract:Sinogastromyzon macrocephalus belongs to the order Cypriniformes, family Nemacheilidae, genus Sinogastromyzon. Locally known as 'red-tailed fish', it is only distributed in the lower reaches of the Lancang River and its tributaries in China (Figure 1). It is omnivorous, mainly feeding on aquatic insects and other invertebrates. Currently, research on Sinogastromyzon macrocephalus is limited to taxonomic descriptions. To alleviate the decline of wild resources of Sinogastromyzon macrocephalus, an artificial breeding experiment was conducted in Jiangcheng Hani and Yi Autonomous County, Yunnan Province in March 2024. The fertilized eggs obtained through artificial insemination were observed for embryonic development, aiming to provide references for biological studies and future research on artificial breeding techniques for this species.
