Effect of Parental Breeding Ratio on the Spawning Rate and Reproductive Performance of Large-Sized Freshwater Crabs
Abstract:In recent years, the freshwater crab farming industry has entered a new development peak, with an annual output of about 800,000 tons, becoming an important freshwater economic crab species in China. Since 2019, the use of large-sized parental stock has led to a major transformation in the freshwater crab farming industry. Super-large-sized female parental stock (weight over 300 grams per individual) and male parental stock (weight over 400 grams per individual), due to their high egg production, fast offspring development, and higher price of seedlings, have become popular in hatcheries. Using these large-sized parental stock not only improves the quality of seedlings but also provides more growth potential for subsequent farming stages, so the importance of large-sized parental stock in breeding work is increasingly prominent.
