Preliminary Exploration of the 'Rice + Rice Field Carp' Integrated Farming Model in the Mountainous Areas of Guizhou
Abstract：Integrated rice and aquaculture farming is an ecological circular agriculture that organically combines traditional agriculture and aquaculture. Due to the limitations of the mountainous terrain, the promotion of integrated rice and aquaculture technology in Guizhou faces problems such as low level of scale, low mechanization, high labor costs, and low efficiency of planting and breeding. The Rice Field Carp is a new aquaculture species approved in 2021 suitable for integrated rice and aquaculture. It was successfully bred by the Pearl River Fisheries Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences through a collaborative model of industry, academia, and research, using the South China carp rice field breeding population (commonly known as Rice Field Fish) and the wild population of South China carp from the Bei River system of the Pearl River. It has characteristics such as fast growth, small head, high back, short round body shape, and weak jumping ability.
