Indoor Raising Technology for Juvenile Freshwater Crawfish in Australia
Abstract:In recent years, some farmers in Hunan Province have tried to raise Australian freshwater crayfish. The fry are mainly purchased from the Guangdong and Guangxi regions. However, imported fry often suffer from low survival rates due to differences in breeding environments and losses during long-distance transportation. Therefore, the breeding and raising of local fry is particularly important. The authors have attempted to raise fry in outdoor ponds, but the weather in Hunan Province is unstable in April and May, with frequent cold surges and heavy rains, which greatly reduce the success rate of fry raising. Using the cement pools in existing breeding greenhouses for fry raising can maintain stable water temperature and control water quality, thus avoiding the impact of unstable early spring weather on fry raising. Therefore, the team has explored the conditions and management of indoor cement pool fry raising for Australian freshwater crayfish. The experimental results are summarized below, aiming to provide effective references for indoor fry raising of Australian freshwater crayfish.
