Application of Visualization Technology in the Placement of Nasojejunal Feeding Tubes at the Bedside for Critically Ill Patients
Abstract:Objective: To explore the safety and effectiveness of bedside visualization technique for nasojejunal feeding tube placement in critically ill patients. Methods: A total of 60 critically ill patients who required enteral nutrition were selected from the Second People's Hospital of Changzhou City between June 2022 and September 2023. They were divided into a blind insertion group (n=32) and a visualization group (n=28) based on different methods of jejunal feeding tube placement. Changes in vital signs during tube placement, placement efficiency (placement time and confirmation time after placement), and safety (incidence of coughing, tube dislodgement, nasal mucosal bleeding, and intestinal mucosal injury) were analyzed. Results: There was no statistically significant difference in vital signs between the two groups during tube placement (P>0.05). There was a statistically significant difference in the time required to confirm the tube position after placement between the two groups (P<0.05). The incidence of coughing, tube dislodgement, and nasal mucosal bleeding was lower in the visualization group compared to the blind insertion group (P<0.05). Conclusion: The visualization method for nasojejunal feeding tube placement is more efficient, safe, and easy to operate, with shorter confirmation time and lower incidence of coughing, tube dislodgement, and nasal mucosal bleeding compared to the blind insertion method.
