Effect of a Laughter Yoga Strategy Based on Rumination Thinking on Symptom Clusters, Perceived Stress, and Post-Traumatic Growth in Patients with Cancer Pain During Chemotherapy for Small Cell Lung Cancer
Abstract:Objective: To explore the effect of a laughter yoga strategy based on rumination thinking on symptom clusters, perceived stress, and post-traumatic growth in patients with cancer pain during chemotherapy for small cell lung cancer. Methods: A total of 106 patients with cancer pain during chemotherapy for small cell lung cancer were selected from the hospital between October 2021 and October 2023. According to the random number table method, they were divided into two groups: the control group (53 cases) received routine nursing and pulmonary function rehabilitation training, while the observation group (53 cases) added a laughter yoga strategy based on rumination thinking. The improvement effects of symptom clusters (symptom experience scale scores), perceived stress levels (Chinese version of the Perceived Stress Scale [CPSS] scores), post-traumatic growth levels (Post-Traumatic Growth Inventory [PTGI] scores), cancer-related fatigue (Cancer Fatigue Scale [CFS] scores), and quality of life (Short Form of the Quality of Life Questionnaire [QOL-BREF] scores) were compared between the two groups. Results: After the intervention, the scores for gastrointestinal, respiratory, psychological, and somatic symptom clusters in both groups increased, with the observation group scoring higher than the control group (P < 0.05). After the intervention, the CPSS scores in both groups decreased, with the observation group scoring lower than the control group (P < 0.05). The PTGI scores in both groups increased, with the observation group scoring higher than the control group (P < 0.05). After the intervention, the scores for physical, cognitive, and emotional fatigue in both groups decreased, with the observation group scoring lower than the control group (P < 0.05). After the intervention, the scores for mental health, physical health, daily living ability, and environmental aspects of the QOL-BREF scale in both groups increased, with the observation group scoring higher than the control group (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Applying a laughter yoga strategy based on rumination thinking to patients with cancer pain during chemotherapy for small cell lung cancer can reduce the impact of chemotherapy on symptom clusters, improve perceived stress levels and post-traumatic growth levels, alleviate cancer-related fatigue, and enhance quality of life.
