Effect of Exercise Intervention Based on the Integrated Theory of Health Behavior Change on Exercise Compliance and Quality of Life in Peritoneal Dialysis Patients
Abstract:Objective: To observe the effect of exercise intervention based on the Integrated Theory of Health Behavior Change (ITHBC) on patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis. Methods: A total of 85 regularly followed-up patients from a tertiary class A hospital's peritoneal dialysis center in Hebei Province were selected as the study subjects from September 2023 to June 2024. They were randomly divided into a control group and an experimental group using a random number table method. The control group received routine nursing care, while the experimental group received exercise intervention based on ITHBC. The two groups were compared before intervention, after 3 months, and after 6 months in terms of exercise self-efficacy, exercise compliance, exercise function, and quality of life. Results: There were statistically significant differences in all indicators across time, between groups, and in interaction (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Exercise intervention based on the Integrated Theory of Health Behavior Change can improve the exercise function, enhance exercise self-efficacy, improve the quality of life, and increase the exercise compliance of patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis.
