Application of Staged Case Management Combined with Peer Education in HIV/HCV Co-infected Patients in a County in Liangshan
Abstract:Objective: To analyze the application effect of staged case management combined with peer education management model in patients with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/hepatitis C virus (HCV) co-infection. Methods: A total of 200 HIV/HCV infected individuals in a county were selected as the study subjects from April to July 2023 and randomly divided into control group and observation group using random sampling method, with 100 cases in each group. The intervention lasted for 10 months. The control group adopted the conventional management model, while the observation group adopted the staged case management combined with peer education management model. The compliance, therapeutic effect (proportion of hepatitis C cured and HIV viral load <200 copies/mL), psychological status [Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS) scores], self-efficacy [General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES) scores], quality of life [Short Form-36 Health Survey (SF-36) scores], and satisfaction were compared before and after the intervention between the two groups. Results: After the intervention, the compliance of the observation group was significantly better than that of the control group (P<0.05). The proportion of hepatitis C cured and HIV viral load <200 copies/mL in the observation group was significantly higher than that in the control group (P<0.05). After the intervention, the SAS and SDS scores of the observation group were lower than those of the control group (P<0.05), while the self-efficacy score, quality of life score, and satisfaction were higher than those of the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion: The application of the staged case management combined with peer education management model in HIV/HCV co-infected patients showed good effects, which can improve patient compliance, alleviate negative emotions, and enhance self-efficacy, quality of life, and satisfaction.
