Development and Reliability and Validity Testing of a Self-Assessment Scale for Home Fluid Management in Peritoneal Dialysis Patients
Abstract:Objective: To develop a self-assessment scale for home fluid management in peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients and to test its reliability and validity. Methods: Based on literature review, qualitative research, and the Delphi method, the initial version of the scale was developed. A pilot survey was conducted to form the preliminary version of the scale. From March to November 2024, 305 PD patients from two tertiary general hospitals in Hubei Province were selected using convenience sampling for formal evaluation and reliability and validity testing to optimize the scale. Results: The Cronbach's α coefficient of the PD patient home fluid management self-assessment scale was 0.886. The I-CVI of the scale ranged from 0.818 to 1.000, and the S-CVI of the total scale was 0.857. The results of exploratory factor analysis extracted four factors with a cumulative variance contribution rate of 72.37%. The factor loadings of each item ranged from 0.675 to 0.853. The results of confirmatory factor analysis showed that all indicators met the ideal standards. The total score of the scale was correlated with the scores of each dimension (fluid status assessment, maintenance of normal fluid level, management of fluid abnormalities, and confidence in fluid management) with correlation coefficients of 0.437, 0.561, 0.426, and 0.585 (all P < 0.01). Conclusion: The self-assessment scale for home fluid management in PD patients has good scientific validity, reliability, and practicality, and can be used as an assessment tool for clinical staff to evaluate the home fluid management ability of PD patients.
