Current Status and Influencing Factors of Learned Helplessness in Middle-aged and Young Patients on Chronic Hemodialysis
Abstract:Objective: To investigate the current status of learned helplessness in middle-aged and young patients on chronic hemodialysis and analyze its influencing factors. Methods: A convenience sample of 180 middle-aged and young patients on chronic hemodialysis was selected from a tertiary A hospital in Guangdong Province between February and September 2024. Questionnaires were conducted using a general information questionnaire, the Learned Helplessness Scale, the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), and the Frailty Phenotype (FP). Multiple linear regression analysis was used to identify the influencing factors of learned helplessness in middle-aged and young patients on chronic hemodialysis. Results: The total score of learned helplessness in middle-aged and young patients on chronic hemodialysis was (33.23±5.43) points. The multiple linear regression analysis showed that gender, family monthly income per capita, educational level, cognitive function, pre-frailty, and frailty were the main influencing factors of learned helplessness in middle-aged and young patients on chronic hemodialysis, explaining 34.4% of the total variance. Conclusion: The level of learned helplessness in middle-aged and young patients on chronic hemodialysis is moderate. Clinical medical staff should pay special attention to middle-aged and young patients on chronic hemodialysis who are female, have low family monthly income, low educational level, cognitive impairment, pre-frailty, or frailty, and provide early intervention to reduce their learned helplessness.
