Changes in Prognostic Nutritional Index Trajectories and Analysis During Chemotherapy in Patients with Colorectal Cancer
Abstract:Objective: To explore the prognostic nutritional index trajectories in patients with colorectal cancer during chemotherapy and analyze their influencing factors. Methods: A convenience sampling method was used to select 178 patients with colorectal cancer who were treated at a tertiary hospital in Nantong from January 2023 to May 2024. Surveys were conducted at five time points: on the day of the first chemotherapy (T1), after the first chemotherapy (T2), after the second chemotherapy (T3), after the third chemotherapy (T4), and after the fourth chemotherapy (T5). Pearson correlation analysis was used to analyze the correlations between indicators, and latent class growth modeling and univariate analysis were used for data processing. Results: The prognostic nutritional index of patients with colorectal cancer during chemotherapy was divided into three latent classes: low decline group (26.4%), stable group (60.0%), and high decline group (14.6%). There were statistically significant differences in age, whether there was a stoma, body mass index (BMI), and tumor stage among different trajectory categories. Conclusion: Patients with colorectal cancer showed three different prognostic nutritional index trajectories from the first to the fourth chemotherapy. Clinical medical staff can identify high-risk patients with poor nutritional prognosis early based on the influencing factors of the prognostic nutritional index, thereby maximizing the improvement of patients' quality of life.
