Construction and Application of an Intervention Program for the Preparedness of Family Caregivers of Laryngeal Cancer Patients Discharged with a Tube After Surgery
Abstract:Objective: To explore the application effect of an intervention program for the preparedness of family caregivers in laryngeal cancer patients discharged with a tube after surgery. Methods: A convenience sampling method was used to select 64 laryngeal cancer patients and their caregivers who underwent total or partial laryngectomy at the head and neck tumor surgery department of a tertiary A-class specialized hospital in Jiangxi Province from March to December 2023. The patients were divided into experimental and control groups according to the ward, with 32 cases in each group. The experimental group received the family caregiver preparedness intervention program in addition to routine health education, while the control group received only routine health education. After the intervention, the preparedness of family caregivers, positive feelings, psychological coherence, and the 30-day unplanned readmission rate of patients were compared. Results: After the intervention, the scores of preparedness, positive feelings, and psychological coherence of family caregivers in the experimental group were significantly higher than those in the control group, and the 30-day unplanned readmission rate of patients in the experimental group was significantly lower than that in the control group (P < 0.05). Conclusion: The family caregiver preparedness intervention program for laryngeal cancer patients discharged with a tube after surgery can effectively improve the level of family caregiver preparedness, enhance caregivers' positive feelings, strengthen their psychological coherence, and reduce the 30-day unplanned readmission rate of patients, which is of great significance for the transition from hospital to home for laryngeal cancer patients discharged with a tube after surgery.
