The Effect of Exercise Programs Based on Smart Health Service Platforms on Blood Glucose and Knowledge Levels in Older Adults with Prediabetes
Abstract:Objective: To evaluate the effect of exercise programs based on smart health service platforms on blood glucose and knowledge levels in older adults with prediabetes. Methods: A total of 57 older adults diagnosed with prediabetes by a community hospital in Chengdu from December 2022 to April 2023 were selected as the study subjects and randomly divided into an experimental group (n=30) and a control group (n=27). The control group received routine exercise health education based on the smart health service platform, while the experimental group received an exercise program tailored for older adults with prediabetes based on the same platform. Fasting blood glucose, hemoglobin A1c, and prediabetes knowledge scores were collected before intervention, at the end of the 6th week, and at the end of the 12th week of intervention. Results: The postprandial 2-hour blood glucose and hemoglobin A1c levels in the experimental group significantly decreased compared to baseline, and at the end of the 12th week, the blood glucose indicators in the experimental group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). At the 6th and 12th weeks of intervention, the prediabetes knowledge scores in the experimental group were higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion: Exercise programs for older adults with prediabetes based on smart health service platforms can reduce postprandial 2-hour blood glucose and hemoglobin A1c levels, and also improve the knowledge level of older adults regarding prediabetes.
